How to Make Incredible New Year’s Eve Party Cake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two round cake pans by greasing them with butter and lining the bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue mixing until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  4. One by one, add the eggs into the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Blend in the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredient mixture and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry components. Stir until just combined.
  6. Separate batter into bowls and stir in food coloring for desired vibrant shades.
  7. Pour the colored batters into the prepared pans in alternating layers or create swirls.
  8. Place cakes in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, frost each layer with your preferred frosting and decorate as desired.
